Version 3.2 beta 3

with 11 comments

Hey all.

It’s been a really busy last month. As usual when we release beta versions we get a lot of feedback, so apologies to anyone that hasn’t received an answer yet. The next beta (beta 3) of the upcoming 3.2 version has been a bit delayed since we wanted to finish a significant upgrade in our backend code, namely moving to an updated version of our database layer. Now that this has been completed, and the development version is almost 100% back up and running, we’re working hard to get beta 3 out the door.

We’ve traditionally done one new point-release every 6 months and service releases (.x.x) about every month or so. We’re still on target for a 3.2 release approx. 6 months after the 3.1 release, but the current beta release has set us back about a month from the originally estimated date. With a small team like ours, delays are inevitable, but we really are working hard getting this release finished and ready. 3.2 is such an enormous improvement over 3.1 that we really don’t want to hold it back any more than we absolutely have to!

How can you help?

  • Fork us. Fork us on github, send patches back as merge requests or ask to be more involved with the team
  • Create translations. Translations are very simple to do, and requires no programmer knowledge.
  • Share your own patches and tips
  • Donate. Money.

Hopefully a new beta can be released before the end of this week, but please bear in mind that we have day jobs, too🙂

Cheers!

  4. Please help!

I can’t get to work any of the buggenie versions here (neither stable, nor beta).

The Javascript is not working, I can’t even login (no login form appears, the link “login” does nothing). Apache log shows errors like this:

File name too long: access to /motorforms/buggenie/serve&g=js&files=anMvcHJvdG90eXBlLmpzLGpzL2J1aWxkZXIuanMsanMvZWZmZWN0cy5qcyxqcy9kcmFnZHJvcC5qcyxqcy9jb250cm9scy5qcyxqcy9qcXVlcnkubWFya2l0dXAuanMsanMvdGhlYnVnZ2VuaWUuanMsanMvbG9naW4uanM= failed

for every action I try. I’ve tried it with Opera and Firefox, with Firebug disabled, yet no luck
    😦

    • It may be that your web server url request limit is shorter than the default. Try to increase it.

  5. added proper bug report http://issues.thebuggenie.com/thebuggenie/issues/1071

I’d love to be able to use BugGenie for a project I’m starting right now, since after hours of research & comparing I decided BugGenie was just perfect, tried it on the live demo & loved it.. but can’t get it to work on localhost

Thanks for your work on BG anyway!🙂

  6. Hi,

I loved buggenie application, i have found few issues which we need to check code level.

When i post new bug report its not sending email to entire project team members. Assigned to need to modification for selection of multiple users like check box instead of user links. its not user friendly feature.

And also When i post new bug report, its taking more time to save the bug report issue. is there any dependence methods are calling on back-end.

If you provide me Framework Architecture that would be helpful for understanding your bug genie application and contribute towards your requirement.

    Thanks,
    Srinivas.

    • The email notifications depend on your notification settings for the project and the individual users.

The assignee field is meant to work for: one user, two users, or a team. If you need to assign an issue to more than two users at the same time, you should create a team and assign the team instead.

The delay when you post new reports is most likely due to the fact that The Bug Genie is waiting for the email server to finish. If you want to, you can setup email queuing which will make this instant, but then you need to set up a scheduled task on the server to trigger the emails periodically.

  8. Hi Chris!
To complete a translation to german, you can download the bg3.2b3 from gihub and search in de_DE folder and complete the missed strings in files.
Or perharps contacting the translators at the forum.
